It’s time once more to make some button-pushing decisions that change the future of a narrative in ways that are rarely clear at the time. The first story from Batman: The Telltale Series found the caped crusader going up against Oswald Cobblepot, Carmine Falcone, and best of all, his own family’s history of collusion and corruption with Gotham City’s criminal business class. But now that he’s dealt with his past, a new threat arises, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s also someone from the past—just not Batman’s past.
As the trailer makes clear, this time Batman will be going up against the Riddler, in this universe an old nemeses of Gotham itself, suddenly returned to terrorize the town. But his arrival marks the start of an even bigger threat, as well as the involvement of a strange white-faced man not yet known as the Joker. (And that’s not even getting into the fact that Amanda Waller shows up, ready for a fight.) As before, split-second decisions will require the player to decide who to trust, where to go, and what to do. This new iteration also offers a “Crowd Play” option, in which friends or family can weigh in on Bruce Wayne’s next move from any online mobile device. While the previous five episodes didn’t always sustain a high level of storytelling, for those who are fans of Telltale’s “Make a call and watch it unfold” manner of play, this should be another fun descent into the mind of the masked vigilante.
