This coolmanguy gets it.
Thank you, Wolfman. This is so incredibly kind and uplifting. Watching you grow as a writer and fixture of this community has been just as rewarding as all the people I’ve gotten to work with in an “official” capacity. I’m also so so glad I got to meet you in New York. Give me a holler if you ever want to talk or meet… Read more
Heya Cap, unfortunately, right now, Twitter is kinda the place even if looking at it makes me miserable too. I’ll be around in the Discord, though, keeping in touch and talking games.
My Toad will always be a street musician from an oppressed socioeconomic class sticking it to The Man with his lame protest songs.
Great points all around, and none I’d ever really argue against. To be clear, I’m not saying Rage is a better game than Borderlands. It most definitely isn’t, even if I’ve grown to kind of hate Borderlands’…let’s call it “irreverent” personality. (And Rage isn’t much better on that front.) I just was so refreshed by… Read more
One of these days I’d really like to get back to that Mad Max game. I know some of the open-worldness of it is going to drive me crazy, but even in the short period I played, I was impressed by some of Avalanche’s stylistic choices—especially when it comes to the shotgun. Between the limited ammo, the lack of guns… Read more
It really is great. The destruction is so fun on its own, but another big thing for me was how it integrated all the wanton destruction of corporate property you’d be doing anyway—because if there’s anything people love to do in chaotic sandboxes, it’s wreak havoc and Guerrilla made that such a delight—into your… Read more
It’s pretty explicitly a game about the main character dealing with anxiety and fighting her inner demons as she struggles to climb a mountain. The symbolism isn’t exactly subtle, but I never found the story to be very overbearing (it’s told in small spurts, usually through charming conversations), and I think the… Read more
I was excited too! For me it was seeing that huge wooded environment with the mountains in the background. It gave me the best kind of flashbacks to Halo CE, like a modern visualization of what it felt like to play that game back in 2001.
Oh, I most definitely understand that feeling. My Steam and Switch libraries are full of games I already own in one or two other formats, just so I can keep them easily in reach. My response wasn’t aimed at you but at the notion that “Konami would rather burn all their IP in a dumpster than do something” with them.
Konami deserves some of the ire it’s gotten, but to be fair, it has been pretty consistent about re-releasing its most beloved stuff wherever possible. The Wii/Wii U Virtual Console is littered with Castlevania games from the NES to the GBA—we even got Rondo Of Blood in the states for the first time!—and stuff like Sui… Read more
The hype/speculation cycles before Smash Bros. releases really are something special. I tend to try and shake off nostalgia when it comes to individual works (and yes, I’m aware of how huge of a pretentious ass that makes me sound), but I have really fond memories for this sort of thing, these frenzied collective… Read more
I considered it, but he just gives him a good solid kick to the head, which given the Hitler’s health might cause his death, but from what we see, he just moans a little and drops his gun. It’s not like you go and crush his skull with your boot.
